    Monster Cookies

I, like most of the rest of the world, love a sweet treat. And cookies are right up there as one of my all time favourites. Seeing as it’s nearly Christmas, and I had a day off work, I decided to make some Monster Cookies, which for those of you that don’t know, are super amazing soft cookies with choc chips and M&M’s in! Sound good? That’s cause they are!  And so you can enjoy them too I thought I’d share the recipe here. They’re pretty quick and easy to make. Fifteen minutes to make the cookie dough, then somewhere between 7 – 10 mins in the oven to cook…

Is Your Bra Really Doing You A Favour?

The topic of bras came up over dinner with some friends a couple of weeks ago, and a few arguments for ditching the daily essential were presented and briefly discussed before the conversation moved on to other topics.  Bras are good for you right? They give you support, keep you in all the right places, and generally make your breasts look nice and perky. Maybe not. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard that going bra-less may actually be better for you, but it prompted me to finally get thinking seriously about it.  I, like most young women, got my first training bras when I began to develop, somewhere around…

    Upcycled Pallet Wood Key Box

I love things made out of reclaimed pallet wood, they have a lovely authentic, rustic, look to them. They’re also a super interesting, fun, and a practical way of reusing old wood that would otherwise most likely be wasted or left to rot away somewhere. There’s also something wonderful about turning something old and bland into something beautiful and useful. From time to time, when I have some free time, I have a go at making things from old pallet wood myself. I find the measuring and sawing and drilling and figuring out how it’s all going to fit together really fun. And there’s not much that beats the feeling of…

How To Make The Perfect Homemade Sloe Gin

Last year I wanted to make some sloe gin, but I couldn’t seem to find any sloes anywhere and no one I asked knew where I could find any… which was pretty silly because I live in the countryside. Anyway, I found some in the end, but they were pretty small and inaccessible and I didn’t get very many. I still ginned them, and came out with two bottles of sloe gin, plus a bottle of damson gin because I accidentally picked some damsons thinking they were sloes. Surprisingly the damson is actually really nice! So if you’re anywhere near any damsons next year, definitely make sure you get some. …

    Veggie Chilli

One of my favourite yummy foods is a good veggie chilli. It’s fairly simple to make, super tasty, and great for both a night in on your own or a dinner party with some friends.  I absolutely pack my chilli with vegetables, which in my humble opinion makes it far, far nicer than one simply made with meat, as all the flavours from the different veg seep into each other during the cooking. It also makes it super healthy, and far more sustainable and environmentally friendly…  Ingredients: – Coconut Oil – 1 Brown Onion – 3 Cloves Garlic – 2 Carrots – 1 Aubergine – 2 Bell Peppers (I used…

    Planting Chillies

We want to start growing our own veg, and have recently got ourselves a second hand greenhouse in which to start doing so. The only thing is, it’s December and totally the wrong time for growing things… except chillies which you can grow in the nice warm house!  So while we were out earlier I picked up some seeds for a few different types of chillies; Cayenne Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, and Ring ‘O’ Fire Chillies. I also picked up some compost, got some little pots off a friend, and borrowed Lacey’s propagator, and was all set to get planting.  So planting isn’t too difficult, and I’m sure many of you…

    Sustainability, And Your Clothes

We all like to look nice, and we all like to shop around and build up a variety of nice, comfy clothes that we feel good in, and can mix and match to create different looks. I know I certainly do. Having those few extra funds to nip round the shops and pick up a good bargain has a certain satisfaction to it. And slipping into something new brings that refreshing feeling that only new clothes can give you.  But the other day after I’d gleefully picked up a new jumper in the sale, I started wondering just how sustainable our clothes really are.  We all know about eating sustainable…

    Thai Green Curry

One of my favourite foods of all time is Thai Green Curry, there’s something about the combination of flavours, plus that bit of heat, that I just find absolutely lovely.  But I am constantly disappointed by the quality of the pre-prepared green curry pastes that you can buy, they are so hit and miss! So after trying one or two and finding myself less than impressed I gave up, in favour of one day making my own paste – something that is often shied away from due to it being rather a difficult thing to do! Last week I decided to finally try this challenge and make a Thai Green…

Making Chandeliers Out Of Old Bike Parts At The Access Bike Workshop

Beautiful handcrafted chandeliers made out of reclaimed bike parts and lit with energy saving Edison bulbs. I recently got given an amazing opportunity… to go down the Access Bike Workshop and learn how to make fully functional chandeliers from old bicycle parts!  It’s recycle, reuse, upcycle… and keep on cycling!  So to give you a little backstory, I work for an amazing organisation in Stroud which runs a variety of inclusive community projects, one of which is Access Bike. The idea with Access bike is that basically, young people need access to a bike in order to be mobile and independent and get themselves to school/college/work etc. And learning how…
